Super Falcons set for pre-WAFCON friendlies against Cameron

The Super Falcons will take on Cameroon in two international friendly matches as part of preparations for this year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in . The fixtures are scheduled within the FIFA Women’s International Window from 24 February to 7 March 2026.

Nigeria, reigning champions and record 10-time winners, will meet the Indomitable Lionesses in Yaoundé on Saturday, 28 February, before a return fixture on Tuesday, 3 March. The matches are expected to serve as vital preparation ahead of the continental showpiece.

The two sides previously faced each other in a preparatory friendly before the last edition of the tournament, also hosted in Morocco, where the Falcons recorded a 2-0 win at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta.

Confirming the arrangements, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, MON, stated that all agreements had been concluded with Cameroon’s football body, FECAFOOT. He explained that the aim is to ensure the team is fully equipped to defend their WAFCON title and pursue qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

Sanusi reiterated the federation’s commitment to providing strong opposition and adequate support to fine-tune the squad before the tournament.

FECAFOOT General Secretary Isaac Mandong also welcomed the fixtures, noting that the matches would help deepen collaboration between both federations.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has fixed the 13th edition of WAFCON for 17 March to 3 April in Morocco. At the conclusion of the tournament, the four semi-finalists will automatically qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

The Super Falcons secured their 10th African crown in Morocco last year, triumphing over Tunisia, Botswana, Zambia, South Africa, and the host nation on their path to victory.
