Supporters welcome Salah as Trabzonspor transfer nears

Former Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah received a rousing reception from hundreds of supporters in Turkey after landing in Istanbul ahead of his anticipated switch to Trabzonspor.

According to BBC Sport on Wednesday, the Egypt captain was welcomed by enthusiastic fans at Atatürk Airport. Dressed in Trabzonspor colours, Salah acknowledged the large crowd that had gathered to celebrate his arrival.

The 34-year-old is expected to complete a move to Trabzonspor after departing Liverpool at the conclusion of last season, ending an outstanding nine-year stay at Anfield. During his time with the Reds, Salah netted 257 goals and established himself as one of the greatest players in the club’s history.

The Turkish Super Lig outfit are poised to finalise the transfer after reaching an agreement with the free agent. Since no transfer fee is involved, Trabzonspor can dedicate a larger share of their financial package to Salah’s salary.
Salah’s expected signing would mark a significant statement of intent from Trabzonspor, who ended last season in third place in the Turkish league to secure European football. The club will battle for a spot in the Europa League group stage through the qualifying rounds, with the Conference League serving as an alternative should they fall short.
While at Liverpool, Salah became the club’s highest-paid player after reportedly agreeing to a £400,000-per-week contract in 2025. He also reached the milestone of 50 Champions League goals, reinforcing his reputation as one of Europe’s finest forwards.

Supporters of Trabzonspor are now awaiting official confirmation of the transfer, which would see one of world football’s biggest stars begin a new chapter in Turkish football.
