Team Nigeria tops African cycling championship medals table with 16 medals

Team Nigeria has emerged as the leading side at the ongoing 2026 Confederation of African Cycling Para-Track and Track African Championships taking place at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome in Abuja.

The competition has drawn top cyclists from across Africa, including strong contenders such as Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, Algeria and hosts Nigeria.

Following two days of competition, Nigeria sits top of the medals table with 16 medals made up of nine gold, five silver and two bronze medals.

The impressive outing places the host nation ahead of Egypt, Kenya, South Africa and Algeria, highlighting Nigeria’s growing influence and rising status in African cycling.

Egypt currently occupies second place with 14 medals, while Kenya is third with nine medals. South Africa and Algeria complete the top five positions.

Nigeria’s cyclists have entertained home fans with remarkable performances marked by speed, endurance, technical skill and determination throughout the championship.

The event has also showcased the quality of the facilities at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome, which has attracted praise while serving as a major platform for African cyclists to compete at a high level.

Nigeria previously hosted the tournament in 2021 and 2023. This year’s edition has attracted more than 100 cyclists from eight countries competing for medals and continental glory.
