Spain head coach David Aznar is targeting a positive start to his team’s campaign at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
The 2018 champions will open their tournament against Nigeria’s Falconets at Stadion Sosnowiec on Monday (today).
La Rojita head into the competition with a talented squad that includes several players who featured for Spain at the 2024 and 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cups.
Aznar said his team are highly motivated and determined to compete for the title, while stressing the need to approach the tournament one game at a time.
“We’re always ambitious. We’re Spain and we want to win everything. We’ll approach the tournament as we always do – with humility and by taking it one game at a time,” Aznar was quoted as saying by FIFA.com.
“That said, we believe we have a competitive team and have complete faith in this group. Our ambitions are high and we will go to the World Cup aiming to win it.”
Spain will look to make an early statement against a Falconets side that are equally keen to begin their Group F campaign with a positive result.
The match is scheduled to kick off at 5pm Nigeria time.
