Match Report

The England international, who had been out throughout January and February with a thigh injury, made an immediate impact by setting up the opener as the hosts secured an eighth consecutive league win. He delivered a cross for Gonzalo Garcia, who poked home after just five minutes.

Mikel Oyarzabal brought Sociedad back on level terms from the penalty spot 16 minutes later after Dean Huijsen fouled Yangel Herrera.

Real Madrid restored their advantage in the 25th minute when Vinicius Jr converted from the spot.

Following a strong challenge from defender Jon Aramburu, the Brazilian picked himself up and calmly placed the ball into the bottom corner.

Federico Valverde added a fourth six minutes later, arrowing a brilliant strike beyond Alex Remiro to further strengthen the home side’s position.

After the break, Vinicius converted another penalty to score his 10th goal of the campaign, sending his team two points ahead of Barcelona, who take on Girona on Monday.

Real Madrid return to action on Tuesday as they welcome Benfica in the Champions League play-offs, while Real Sociedad travel to face Real Oviedo in La Liga on Saturday.
