West Ham thrash Wolves to escape relagation, drag Spurs into danger

West Ham surged out of the Premier League’s bottom three and sent rivals Tottenham into the relegation zone with an emphatic 4-0 win over Wolves at the London Stadium.

Valentin Castellanos and Konstantinos Mavropanos each grabbed two goals as a nervy opening gave way to a dominant second-half display, leaving Wolves staring at the possibility of relegation as early as next weekend.

Mavropanos opened the scoring late in the first half, rising high to head home Jarrod Bowen’s cross, though both sides had opportunities early in the second period.

Angel Gomes struck the woodwork with a powerful free-kick, while Crysencio Summerville nearly caught Jose Sa off guard from long range during a quick West Ham counter. Bowen also came close, curling an effort against the far post after cutting in from the right.

West Ham eventually doubled their lead in the 66th minute, with Castellanos finishing off a brilliant flick from Pablo. They quickly put the result beyond doubt moments after the restart, as Castellanos’ effort took a deflection off Andre after Joao Gomes lost possession.

Mavropanos added his second with an acrobatic finish from a corner in the 83rd minute to make it 4-0, and the hosts could have extended the scoreline further late on, but former Wolves winger Adama Traore missed a one-on-one chance.

The victory lifts West Ham to 17th place, two points clear of Tottenham and level on points with Nottingham Forest, only behind them on goal difference. Wolves, meanwhile, sit 15 points adrift of safety with just 18 left to play for.

**Data Debrief: West Ham pile the pressure on Spurs**

West Ham have now spent just their second day outside the relegation zone in 2026, having also climbed above it on March 14.

Tottenham, on the other hand, find themselves in the bottom three overnight for the first time since August 2015, following the opening match of the 2015-16 campaign.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side appear to be finding form at a crucial stage, with five wins, three draws, and three defeats in their last 11 league matches. Since their victory at Tottenham on January 17, only Manchester United and Arsenal have collected more points than West Ham’s 18 in that span.

Although West Ham registered 18 shots to Wolves’ 14 and an expected goals (xG) tally of 1.68 compared to 0.61, their clinical finishing made the difference in their biggest Premier League win since April 2023, when they beat Bournemouth by the same margin under David Moyes.
