Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso has sharply condemned the referee following his team’s loss to Celta Vigo, arguing that several poor decisions “drove the team crazy” and played a major role in their defeat.
Fabrizio Romano on Monday cited Alonso as saying, “I did not like the referee’s decisions at all. It was poor. The decisions drove us crazy.
‘’The red card to Carreras was something he was clearly looking for. The referee let Celta waste time, never even warned them about it, and kept stopping play every time.”
Responding to speculation about a possible dismissal, the Real Madrid boss said, “I’m not thinking of that. I’m thinking of Real Madrid vs Man City. I’m just thinking of Wednesday’s game. We’re all united, all together.”
Earlier, PUNCH Online reported that Real Madrid suffered a costly 2–0 home defeat to Celta Vigo on Sunday in La Liga, ending the match with nine players after Fran García and Álvaro Carreras were both sent off.
The loss leaves Real Madrid trailing La Liga leaders Barcelona by four points.
