Yamal retains Kopa Trophy at Ballon d’Or

Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal has retained the Kopa Trophy at the 2025 Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris, becoming the first player to win the men’s youth award in consecutive years.

The 18-year-old scored 18 goals in 55 appearances last season, inspiring Barcelona to a La Liga and Copa del Rey double. He also played a decisive role in Spain’s European Championship victory.

The Kopa Trophy, awarded to the best player under 21, cements Yamal’s reputation as one of football’s brightest prospects. He first claimed the honour in 2024 following Spain’s continental success.

In the women’s category, his compatriot Vicky López lifted the Kopa Trophy, highlighting Spain’s dominance in youth football.

Ahead of the night’s top prize, organisers unveiled the men’s Ballon d’Or rankings from 30 to 11. The list featured Erling Haaland, Vinícius Júnior, Robert Lewandowski and Harry Kane, all missing out on the top ten.

Paris Saint-Germain had strong representation, with Fabian Ruiz, João Neves and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia named among the contenders. PSG forward Ousmane Dembélé remains the frontrunner for the men’s Ballon d’Or.

The Théâtre du Châtelet was filled with anticipation as football’s elite gathered to witness the unveiling of the 2025 Ballon d’Or winner later in the evening.
