The District Head of Gwandu in Kebbi State, Alhaji Muhammadu Rasheed, popularly known as Sarkin Gabas, has passed away.
The traditional ruler’s death was confirmed to our correspondent on Wednesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Governor, Ahmed Idris, and the Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Abdullahi Idris.
Abdullahi disclosed that the district head died on Wednesday, adding that his funeral prayer would take place at the Palace of the Emir of Gwandu in Birnin Kebbi by 3pm.
He said, “His Royal Highness passed away today, and the burial prayer will be performed at the Emir of Gwandu’s Palace, Birnin Kebbi, by 3pm. May his soul rest in peace.
“He succeeded his father, late Alhaji Muhammadu Bashar Mai-Wurno, the eldest son of the late Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Haruna Rasheed.”
Ahmed Idris, who also confirmed the death, described the passing of the district head as a major loss to Kebbi State and its traditional institution.
He said Governor Nasir Idris, who is currently in the United States for the United Nations General Assembly with Vice President Kashim Shettima, was shocked by the sudden demise.
According to him, “The death of the District Head of Gwandu is a great loss to Kebbi State and the traditional institution.
“The governor, who is currently in the United States attending the United Nations General Assembly alongside the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, was shocked by the sudden death of the traditional ruler.”
The governor’s aide prayed for Allah to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
He also prayed for Allah to give the deceased’s family, the people of Gwandu and the people of Kebbi State the strength to cope with the loss.
