Hamzat joins Oyo governorship race, obtains accord party nomination form

An Ibadan-based broadcaster and Accord Party governorship aspirant, Oriyomi Hamzat, on Monday obtained his expression of interest and nomination forms at the party secretariat in Yemetu, Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State.

After completing the process, Hamzat told supporters that his political ambition had now progressed from planning to full execution, adding that “work has started” on his governorship bid.

He described the development as the beginning of a more organised phase of mobilisation and political engagement across the state. According to him, “The move signals a new phase of structured mobilisation and political engagement across the state. I am here to pick expression of interest and nomination forms for the governorship race in Oyo at our party secretariat, Yemetu in Ibadan.”

Report stated that Hamzat had earlier declared his intention to run on January 19, 2026. He said the decision was influenced by what he described as divine direction, and after consulting his advisers, he resolved to contest the 2027 governorship election under the Accord Party.

He also stated that part of his early campaign activities included providing transport support, including buses, to assist supporters who attended the event, which he said demonstrated his preparedness and organisational strength.

At the party secretariat on Monday, Hamzat arrived with a large crowd of supporters, many of whom expressed determination to oppose Governor Seyi Makinde’s attempt to install a successor in 2027.

The aspirant, known for his influence through Agidigbo FM and his involvement in social advocacy, was welcomed by party officials and supporters who filled the venue with chants and solidarity songs.

The event marked a significant step in his early campaign activities ahead of the 2027 governorship race.
