Bayern Munich forward Luis Diaz has discussed his first season at the German giants, the club’s Champions League ambitions and his relationships with teammates including Harry Kane and Michael Olise.
Speaking to Sky Sport Germany, Diaz also reflected on his inclusion among the top 30 players in world football and revealed his excitement about attending Oktoberfest.
Diaz Targets Champions League Triumph
The Colombian said Bayern’s strong squad and coaching staff have given the club confidence ahead of another Champions League campaign.
“Yes, of course. We are well aware that we are at a great club, we have a great team, and we also have very good coaching staff.
Our goal, of course, is to win all the trophies we can, especially the Champions League. Last season, we performed very well in the Champions League, and this year we will try again.”
Diaz Hails Olise’s Importance
Diaz also praised Michael Olise, stressing that retaining key players has helped Bayern maintain stability within the squad.
“First of all, it’s very important for us that the team wasn’t broken up. If we lost a player like that, it would be very difficult. A new player might come in, and then many things would change, and he would also need time to adapt.
But thank goodness he’s still here and hasn’t left. He’s still a very important player for us. He has incredible ability and has consistently shown it in these matches.
As for him as a person, as I’ve said before, he’s a very nice guy, and he actually talks a lot. When facing the media, he sometimes might not want to say too much, which I can understand because I don’t like it myself. I don’t like talking about myself at all. But after all, we are public figures, so we have to cooperate to some extent, which is also part of our job. Within the team, Michael actually talks a lot, whether in the locker room or on the field. He jokes around and is also a great team player. We get along very well.”
Diaz Tips Kane for Ballon d’Or
Asked about the Ballon d’Or debate, Diaz backed Bayern teammate Harry Kane for the prestigious individual award.
“I’ve noticed several people have talked about this, and everyone has their own opinion, right? Every opinion deserves respect. From my point of view, Harry must be the Ballon d’Or winner. Because he is one of the best players in the world and has proven this for a very long time. Also, his performance last season was simply incredible.”
Diaz Proud of Top-30 Recognition
The Bayern forward said being named among the top 30 players in world football represented a significant milestone in his career.
“For me, it means a lot. I will always keep this in mind. Not everyone has the chance to be among the top 30 players in the world, which is a very wonderful achievement. I have been fortunate enough to be selected twice, and for me and my career, this is a very great achievement.
I will try to move up further on this list each time. All of us are working hard, and as a team, we are also striving to improve and hope to have a better season and win as many trophies as possible with this club.”
Diaz Looks Forward to Oktoberfest
Diaz also expressed his enthusiasm for Bayern’s famous annual Oktoberfest celebrations.
“Of course! It’s a great party and a great event, and there are always a lot of people. I’ll dress up nicely.”
