Ododo reinstates Olu of Magongo at 2026 Festival

The 2026 Owiya Osese Festival in Magongo community featured vibrant cultural showcases and fresh appeals for unity, coming after the reinstatement of His Royal Majesty, Sam Bola, as the Olu of Magongo.

The event attracted attendees from both within and outside Kogi State and was celebrated as a reflection of cultural heritage, grassroots growth, and community harmony.

The monarch’s reinstatement followed his suspension in August 2024 by former Governor Yahaya Bello, making his return a key highlight of the annual festival.

Speaking at the event, the National President of the Magongo Development Association (MDA), Prince Akpata Jordan, described the development as a “joyous ending” for the community, emphasizing that the festival remains a powerful symbol of identity and shared values.

He explained that the Owiya Osese Festival is more than a celebration, as it also serves as a platform for preserving culture, fostering unity, and strengthening bonds across generations.

Prince Akpata thanked Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, for attending the event, noting that his presence reflects a commitment to grassroots development and cultural advancement.

He also praised the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, for her support, adding that her involvement has boosted the festival’s visibility both nationally and globally.

The MDA president pointed out the festival’s economic impact, stating that it draws visitors, enhances local business activities, and promotes tourism in the area.

He called on residents to maintain peace and unity, stressing that sustainable development depends on a stable and cooperative environment.

Prince Akpata further reaffirmed the association’s dedication to infrastructure development, youth empowerment, and community-led progress, while urging stakeholders to fulfill their development commitments.

He also recognised the contributions of Joseph B. Daudu to the creation of Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area, describing it as a lasting legacy for the people.

The festival included traditional rites, cultural displays, and communal gatherings, reinforcing the community’s shared heritage and cultural identity.
