Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have killed an Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) cameraman and recovered video evidence revealing the involvement of foreign terrorist facilitators during an operation in Borno State.
According to a statement by the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Muhammed Goni, the breakthrough followed a failed attempt by ISWAP fighters to infiltrate Cross Kauwa in Kukawa Local Government Area on Saturday night.
The terrorists reportedly tried to exploit the cover of darkness to overrun the military position and loot cholera medical supplies but were repelled by troops, who inflicted heavy casualties and forced the attackers to retreat.
During the operation, soldiers recovered a Sony camcorder containing operational footage and propaganda materials. Preliminary analysis of the recordings indicated the attack was coordinated by four senior ISWAP commanders with support from three foreign facilitators.
The foreign nationals were identified as a Palestinian Arab known as Abu Ishaq, believed to be the group’s chief trainer, a Moroccan Arab identified as Abu Thaiba, who reportedly serves as a medical doctor, and another Arab operative whose identity has yet to be established.
The military said the findings reinforce intelligence suggesting ISWAP continues to receive external support and specialist expertise through transnational terrorist networks.
Troops also recovered ammunition, terrorist uniforms and other combat equipment during follow-up operations. Satellite imagery and human intelligence reportedly confirmed that several terrorists were killed, while many others sustained gunshot wounds during the encounter.
Two soldiers were injured in the firefight and have been airlifted for treatment. The military said both personnel are in stable condition.
Operation Hadin Kai reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and restoring lasting peace across Nigeria’s North-East.
