Violence in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo has killed over 7,000 people, many civilians, since January, Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka said on Monday.
Speaking at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, she warned that the security situation had reached “alarming levels,” with more than 2,500 unidentified bodies buried and 1,500 still in morgues.
The Rwanda-backed M23 armed group has seized key cities, including Goma and Bukavu, forcing tens of thousands to flee. The conflict raises fears of a regional war, with UN chief Antonio Guterres calling for urgent action.
