Chelsea Women secured their sixth consecutive Women’s Super League (WSL) title with two matches remaining, following a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Manchester United Women at Leigh Sports Village.
Earlier in the evening, Arsenal’s unexpected 5-2 defeat at the hands of Aston Villa meant that just a draw would suffice for Chelsea to retain their crown. Rising to the occasion, Sonia Bompastor’s side did just enough to get over the line, despite not being at their best.
The Blues weathered significant pressure from United throughout the match but managed to edge ahead in the 74th minute. Lucy Bronze capitalized on a failed punch by goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce, nodding home a Sandy Baltimore corner to seal the win.
Although Chelsea had more possession in the opening half, Manchester United had the clearer chances, missing two notable opportunities before the break. The second half followed a similar pattern, with United pushing forward in front of a passionate home crowd but ultimately failing to convert.
Beyond securing another league triumph, Chelsea also set a new WSL record for the longest unbeaten run in a single season, now standing at 20 matches — surpassing Manchester City’s 19-game streak from the 2018–19 campaign.
