Oscar Piastri claimed victory for McLaren at the 2025 Miami Grand Prix, leading a 1-2 finish with teammate Lando Norris securing second place, BeIN Sport reported on Monday.
George Russell completed the podium for Mercedes, finishing third.
According to the official Formula 1 website, Piastri earned his third consecutive Formula 1 win, extending his lead in the World Championship standings. The 24-year-old Australian delivered an outstanding performance, overtaking pole-sitter Max Verstappen on lap 14 and maintaining the lead until the checkered flag.
This marks Piastri’s fourth win of the season, solidifying his position as a strong contender for the championship. He now holds a 16-point lead over Norris, who finished second, completing a dominant McLaren one-two finish, as also reported by The Guardian and ESPN.
The race started with Verstappen in the lead from pole position, but an early lock-up at Turn One allowed Piastri to close in. Demonstrating skill and precision, Piastri made a decisive overtake on Verstappen, who later dropped to fourth after being passed by George Russell during a Virtual Safety Car period.
Piastri’s victory also marks McLaren’s first hat trick of wins in over 25 years, underscoring the team’s resurgence in Formula 1.
The Miami Grand Prix drew a record-breaking crowd of 275,000 spectators over the weekend.
As the season continues, Piastri’s consistency and McLaren’s strategic brilliance position them as formidable contenders in the battle for the championship, the website noted.
