Nigeria’s financial crimes agency, the EFCC, has confirmed the arrest of popular rights activist Martins Vincent Otse, also known as Verydarkman (VDM).

The EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, disclosed to BBC News Pidgin on Monday that the activist was arrested following complaints filed by several individuals with grievances against him.

“We arrested him to address a series of allegations raised by the petitioners,” Oyewale stated.

When asked if the complaints were connected to GT Bank, he clarified that the petitions came from various individuals and emphasized the EFCC’s responsibility to protect complainants.

He further explained, “We will release him once he fulfills the bail conditions, and we will take the case to court as soon as possible. We are law-abiding.”

Oyewale also confirmed that the activist was arrested in Abuja.
