The police have summoned several officers featured in viral videos for what has been described as unprofessional behaviour while carrying out their duties.

In a statement released via X, the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, revealed that the cases involve officers serving in Benin, Edo State, and a traffic officer in the Federal Capital Territory.

He said the officers in Edo had been identified as members of the Zone 5 Zonal Counter-Terrorism Unit and were called to the Force Headquarters in Abuja following multiple complaints of highhandedness around Airport Road, Benin.

“They have been summoned to the Force Headquarters, Abuja, for the past two days and are currently undergoing an orderly room trial — the appropriate disciplinary process in accordance with police regulations,” the statement read.

In a related case, an Assistant Superintendent of Traffic (AST) was also summoned after a viral video posted on Monday, 5 May 2025, showed him acting in a manner inconsistent with the Nigeria Police Force’s Standard Operating Procedures.

“As part of the ongoing internal review, he has been officially served a query over his unprofessional and discourteous conduct,” Adejobi added.

The Force reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability, promising to keep the public informed as the disciplinary procedures continue.

Adejobi further commended members of the public for speaking out and holding officers to professional standards. “Your voice is essential in helping us serve you better,” he said.
