American singer Miley Cyrus has shared the emotional toll of a medical emergency during one of her New Year’s Eve performances.

In an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Cyrus said she suffered a ruptured ovarian cyst, causing “extremely excruciating” pain yet performed despite uncertainty about her condition.

Over dinner, she said Canadian film producer Lorne Michaels offered impactful advice, reassuring her that many artists face similar challenges and contemplate leaving the industry, helping her find the strength to move forward.

She explained: “I had a medical emergency. I had an ovarian cyst rupture. We didn’t know exactly what was going on so we did it. It was pretty traumatic because it was extremely excruciating and I did the show anyway. But it was really, really hard on me.

“I had dinner with Lorne and he said something that now has stuck with me. He goes, ‘Six months. Everybody has six months to feel sorry for themselves and then we start to rebuild.’ “He’s like, ‘You have no idea how many artists have sat in this chair and told me they were quitting music. Everyone does this, everyone has these traumatic experiences”.
