Senator Orji Kalu, representing Abia North Senatorial District, has dismissed claims that increasing endorsements for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid are driven by fears of opposition coalitions.

Speaking to Senate correspondents ahead of Tuesday’s plenary, Kalu emphasized that the growing support for the President stems from his achievements and policy direction rather than political concerns.

“The APC is not afraid of any opposition coalition. We are the ruling party and we love Nigeria. That is why many of us are investing in industries across the country to create jobs beyond government efforts,” he said.

The former Senate Chief Whip and current Chairman of the Senate Committee on the South-East Development Commission noted that criticism from opposition parties is a normal aspect of democracy and shouldn’t be interpreted as a sign of weakness in the APC.

“The opposition must fight, that’s their job. But our job is to deliver, and we’re doing it. In the coming years, Nigerians will appreciate what Mr. President is doing,” Kalu added.

He also highlighted the Southeast’s early support for Tinubu, stating that the region’s endorsement came ahead of many others and was initiated by leaders from the area, including governors and federal lawmakers.

On economic reforms, Kalu praised Tinubu’s bold measures such as the removal of fuel subsidy and the unification of exchange rates. While acknowledging the hardship these policies have caused, he maintained they are essential for long-term economic growth and stability.
