35

Arafat Day (9th of Dhul-Hijjah) is one of the holiest days in the Islamic calendar, especially for those not performing Hajj. It is a day of immense spiritual reward, reflection, and supplication.

Here’s what to say and do on Arafat Day:

What to Do on Arafat Day (for non-pilgrims)

  1. Fast

    • The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:
“Fasting on the Day of Arafah expiates the sins of the previous year and the coming year.”
      (Muslim, 1162)

    • Fasting is highly recommended for those not on Hajj.

  2. Make Du‘a (Supplication)

    • It’s the best day of the year to make heartfelt prayers. Ask for forgiveness, guidance, and blessings for yourself and others.

    • The Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“The best supplication is the supplication on the Day of Arafah.”
      (Tirmidhi)

  3. Seek Forgiveness (Istighfar)

    • Repeat: Astaghfirullah (I seek forgiveness from Allah).

    • Reflect on your sins and sincerely ask Allah for mercy and a fresh start.

  4. Recite Tahleel, Takbeer, and Tahmeed

    • Say frequently:

      • Tahleel: La ilaha illallah (There is no god but Allah)

      • Takbeer: Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest)

      • Tahmeed: Alhamdulillah (All praise is due to Allah)

      • Tasbeeh: Subhanallah (Glory be to Allah)

  5. Read the Qur’an

    • Spend time reciting and reflecting on the Qur’an. Try to read Surah Al-Kahf or any other surahs meaningful to you.

  6. Perform Extra Prayers

    • Increase in nafl (voluntary) prayers, especially Salat ad-Duha and Qiyam al-Layl (night prayer).

  7. Give Charity

    • Any good deed done today is multiplied. Giving sadaqah (charity) brings immense reward.
