The Israeli military announced on Saturday that it had struck an underground facility in Khorramabad, western Iran, which stored surface-to-surface and cruise missiles.
Brigadier General Effie Defrin, the military’s spokesperson, described the target as a significant site, previously showcased in an Iranian propaganda video. He was likely referring to footage released earlier this year by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, which claimed to reveal a new underground missile base.
“We struck the facility and eliminated the senior officials connected to it,” said Defrin. “Dozens of similar sites have also been destroyed.”
According to the military, the Khorramabad complex contained storage tunnels for missiles and multiple launch shafts.
Iranian media confirmed that strikes occurred in Lorestan province, where Khorramabad is located.
Earlier on Saturday, Israel stated that its ongoing air strikes, which began in the early hours of Friday, had killed over 20 senior Iranian military and Revolutionary Guards commanders, including Iran’s armed forces chief, Mohammad Bagheri.
Israel also reported the deaths of nine nuclear scientists and technical experts.
Meanwhile, Iran claimed that at least 78 people had been killed in the attacks.
