Kastina Gov declares Friday work-free to mark Islamic new year

Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has declared Friday, 27th June 2025, a work-free day in observance of the new Islamic Year, 1447AH.

The purpose of the holiday is to allow civil servants and residents to join fellow believers in celebrating the Islamic New Year and reflecting on its spiritual importance.

In a statement released Thursday, Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Faskari, conveyed the governor’s warm congratulations to Muslims in Katsina and across the country on witnessing the start of the new Islamic calendar.

Governor Radda also urged residents of Katsina State to continue fostering peace and unity among themselves, stressing that true development is impossible without a stable and peaceful environment.

He reaffirmed his government’s dedication to implementing projects that directly benefit the people and enhance their wellbeing.

Additionally, the governor encouraged farmers and recipients of agricultural inputs from the government to make good use of fertilizers, tractors, and other tools distributed during the rainy season to boost food production. He also cautioned against illegal occupation of cattle routes, forest areas, and grazing lands.

Radda concluded by offering prayers for lasting peace, unity, and prosperity in both Katsina State and Nigeria.


Rainstorm Ravages Schools in Funtua

Meanwhile, a powerful windstorm struck parts of the Funtua District on Sunday, inflicting serious damage on several schools and staff accommodations.

According to the Katsina State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, the storm severely affected infrastructure in numerous educational institutions in the area.

“With profound sorrow and complete submission to the will of Allah, the Katsina State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education announces the devastating impact of a severe storm that struck the Funtua Senatorial zone on the evening of June 22, 2025,” the ministry’s statement read.

The government extended its sympathies to the affected schools, staff, and their families following the incident.
