The Niger State Government has ordered the closure of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) University, Lapai, following recent armed robbery attacks on students.

In a statement released Wednesday night, the Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Usman, said the decision was made in response to ongoing security breaches and the tragic loss of lives within the university community.

The government expressed deep concern over the incidents and urged members of the university to stay calm, remain vigilant, and cooperate with security agencies during the closure period.

“The safety and security of all citizens, including the students, remain a top priority for the government. The state government is working diligently to restore order, ensure the safety of all citizens, and maintain peace within the state.

“The government promised to investigate into the security breeches and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice while reiterating its commitment to upholding law and order, as well as protecting the lives and property of all residents in Niger State,” he said.
