A tragic flood has reportedly claimed the life of a seven-year-old boy, Mohammed Mohammed, in Emiliman Nasarafu Ward 2 B of Bida Local Government Area, Niger State.

The incident occurred on Thursday, June 26, 2025, following a torrential rainfall that lasted from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m.

According to a local eyewitness who wished to remain anonymous, the flooding was caused by the diversion of a major drainage channel by Arab Contractors—the company responsible for constructing the one-kilometre Man Musa Kodogi/Nasarafu bypass road.

The source claimed that the contractor’s actions led to the destruction of buildings and business premises in the area due to the large volume of diverted water.

According to the source, despite a search and rescue mission by members of the community, the boy’s corpse has not been found.

When contacted, the deceased boy’s father, Mohammed Usman, said the late Mohammed was sent to a neighborhood after the rain stopped, but the flood caught up with him.

According to him, “My pain is that, up to this moment, my son’s body has not been found. Immediately after the rain stopped, the entire community embarked on the search and rescue mission, but yet, we have not found the body.”

Mohammed, however, submitted the incident to the will of Allah, saying, “From Allah we come, and unto Him we shall return.”

Recall that on Saturday, June 14, 2025, a heavy rainstorm ravaged the community, which resulted in the collapse of buildings, a bridge, culvert, and business premises—an incident also attributed to the road construction.

The spokesperson of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Hussaini Ibrahim, when contacted, explained that the agency is conducting an assessment of the incident, saying, “After the findings, the State Government will respond accordingly.”
