Ten people have lost their lives and three others sustained injuries in a road accident on the Ome Bridge heading towards Awa, along the Ijebu Ode–Obada Expressway in Ijebu North Local Government Area, Ogun State.

The Ogun State Traffic and Emergency Compliance Agency confirmed the incident and reported that the crash involved a Mitsubishi bus with registration number EJ829 LSR.

According to the agency’s spokesman, Babatunde Akinbiyi, the crash resulted from reckless overtaking, which caused the vehicle to veer off the road, plunge into nearby bushes, and eventually end up in the river.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command has announced the arrest of a notorious serial kidnapper and the recovery of weapons linked to earlier abductions.

In a statement, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, revealed that operatives from the anti-kidnapping unit apprehended Clement Elijah, who had evaded capture since 2024 for his involvement in a high-profile kidnapping at Ajelanwa village.

Odutola stated that Elijah arrived in the Ibiade community on June 13, 2025, intending to abduct a prominent figure in Ago Village, Abigi. However, swift collaboration between the police and alert residents foiled his plan.

Following a clearance operation on June 16, 2025, the police arrested the gang’s suspected armourer, Posi Friday. Officers recovered a pump-action rifle, a locally made pistol, and eight live cartridges concealed inside a Boom Speaker.

The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, praised the Ibiade and Abigi communities for their consistent communication and vital support, which played a key role in cracking the case.

In a separate incident, operatives from the Anti-Cultism Team arrested 14 suspected members of rival cult groups on June 16, 2025. The suspects were allegedly plotting attacks to assert dominance.
