The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has issued a licence for Enugu Air to commence domestic flight operations in Nigeria.
This was disclosed in a statement on Monday by Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the NCAA.
Enugu Air was officially launched on Monday, July 7, 2025, by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, at a ceremony attended by the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah. The airline began commercial operations with three Embraer 170 aircraft, each accommodating around 76 passengers.
The NCAA granted the airline an interim licence to operate in partnership with XEJet, pending the completion of its own Air Operator Certificate (AOC). This authorisation enables Enugu Air to conduct commercial flights using XEJet’s operational framework and aircraft, following a completed variation process that added the Embraer E170 to XEJet’s operational specifications.
Ticket bookings are currently managed through the XEJet platform, accessible via a redirect on Enugu Air’s official website.
This arrangement supports the Minister’s 5-Point Aviation Agenda, which promotes the development of indigenous airlines and encourages a more business-friendly operating environment.
The NCAA confirmed that XEJet is authorised to operate scheduled domestic flights on behalf of Enugu Air, in full compliance with the Authority’s five-phase certification process.
“The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has approved the commencement of domestic flight operations by Enugu Air in accordance with the Honourable Minister’s 5-Point Agenda, which aims to support indigenous carriers, improve business ease, and strengthen reforms in the sector,” the statement noted.
“Enugu Air has partnered with XEJet pending the conclusion of its AOC process. XEJet has completed the required variation to integrate the Embraer 170 into its operations, and is fully authorised to operate flights for Enugu Air under NCAA guidelines.”
The NCAA reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high standards of safety, security, and consumer protection, while also promoting fair competition in Nigeria’s aviation industry.
