Cameroon’s President Paul Biya declared on Sunday his intention to run for an eighth term in the upcoming October elections, aiming to prolong his rule that has lasted nearly 43 years.

“Together, there are no challenges we cannot meet,” he stated in posts shared on X in both English and French.

At 92, Biya was already widely regarded as the de facto candidate of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM), where he serves as the party leader.
