The Super Falcons of Nigeria delivered a commanding performance on Friday, thrashing Zambia 5–0 to book their place in the semi-finals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Goals from Osinachi Ohale, Esther Okoronkwo, Chiwendu Ihezuo, Tosin Demehin, and Aminat Ijamilusi ensured a dominant display by the nine-time African champions, who remain unbeaten and yet to concede in the tournament. The emphatic win also stands as the biggest scoreline recorded so far in this year’s competition.
Nigeria wasted no time asserting control, with Ohale nodding in a free-kick from Okoronkwo in the 2nd minute. Okoronkwo doubled the lead in the 33rd minute after expertly controlling Rasheedat Ajibade’s cross and finishing with her left foot. Ihezuo added a third before the break, while Demehin and Ijamilusi rounded off the rout in the second half.
The Falcons will now face the winner between South Africa and Senegal in the semi-final as they continue their quest for a 10th continental title.
