The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the death of Femi Oladele, popularly known as Tallex, a suspect arrested in connection with the abduction and murder of two students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko.

According to the police, Oladele died on Saturday after a brief illness while in custody. A source revealed that he fell ill while in detention and was rushed to the hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.

Oladele, who was reportedly the landlord of one of the victims, was arrested alongside two other suspects following the disappearance of the students Andrel Okah, a 200-level student of History and International Studies, and John Abba, a 200-level Economics student. The duo, who were friends, had been declared missing by colleagues after being unaccounted for over a period of three weeks.

The police launched an investigation into the case, which led to the arrest of the suspects. During interrogation, one of the suspects allegedly confessed that the students were killed and their bodies dumped at separate locations in Ekiti State.

Subsequently, the police confirmed the recovery of Okah’s remains, which were deposited in a morgue, while efforts were ongoing to locate and retrieve Abba’s body.

“The suspect (Oladele) was sick in the custody where he was kept by the police. When his health condition was getting worse, he was quickly rushed to the hospital, where he later died.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the death of the suspect, stating that Oladele had been receiving treatment but succumbed in the early hours of Friday.

“Yes, he is dead. He had been under medical supervision since his arrest and had been in and out of the hospital. He passed away yesterday (Friday). We have recovered the decomposing body of Okah and are still searching for Abba’s remains.

“We urge the public to disregard any attempt to twist the facts. The command remains fully committed to justice. Everyone involved will face the full weight of the law,” the PPRO stated.
