Nollywood actress and producer Omoni Oboli has credited the longevity of her 24-year marriage to a key decision she and her husband, Nnamdi Oboli, made prior to getting married — choosing never to consider divorce as an option.
Speaking on this week’s episode of #With Chude, Omoni shared that this shared resolve has formed the foundation of their relationship, enabling them to overcome difficult times, including a challenging first year of marriage. She stressed that their choice to remain committed, regardless of obstacles, has played a significant role in sustaining their union.
According to her, “From day one, we decided that divorce was not an option even before we got married. Staying married for over two decades. First things first, you have to decide. It’s a decision,” she added.
As a mother of three, Omoni also underscored the role of forgiveness in building a lasting marriage, stating, “there’s almost nothing someone can do that you can’t forgive, if you want to forgive. We all have to realize that we’re all sinners.” She recalled how quickly their love story unfolded—Nnamdi proposed just two weeks after they met, and they were married four months later. Although she initially had doubts, she grew to love him for his steadfast devotion.
Nnamdi, in his own reflections, advised younger couples to take full responsibility for their relationships, emphasizing that “marriage is a responsibility. You don’t go into a marriage expecting it to happen to you. You are the relationship. It’s between two people; you have to make it work.”
