The Minister of Health, Prof. Ali Pate, on Friday held a closed-door meeting with the leadership of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) and officials from the Ministry of Labour.
The meeting formed part of ongoing negotiations involving the health and labour ministries and the nurses’ union.
Members of NANNM began a warning strike on July 29, 2025, citing the government’s failure to adequately respond to a 15-day ultimatum issued on July 14, 2025.
The nationwide strike by nurses and midwives in public health institutions is set to continue until August 5, 2025.
The industrial action follows long-standing grievances over poor welfare and working conditions, which the union says the government has consistently failed to address.
