A fuel tanker explosion has reportedly killed several people in the Dan Magaji area of Zaria, Kaduna state.
The incident happened at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Monday, near Rochas Foundation School, along the Kaduna–Kano expressway bypass.
According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, the accident involved two tankers and two cars filled with passengers.
Eyewitnesses said the collision led to five loud explosions and a massive fire, sending thick plumes of smoke over the highway.
“All the occupants of the cars died on the spot, except one driver who survived but sustained severe burns,” a witness said.
The publication added that emergency responders, security agencies, and fire service personnel have sealed off the area.
Motorists and pedestrians have been advised to avoid the route as rescue and recovery operations are still underway.
The exact number of casualties has yet to be confirmed.
