The Nigerian Official Selection Committee (NOSC) has opened submissions for Nigeria’s entry in the Best International Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards.

In a statement on Monday, the committee confirmed that Nigerian filmmakers can submit eligible films via the official NOSC portal between 13 August and 12 September 2025.

The NOSC stated that each entry must be a feature-length film produced outside the United States, with at least 50 per cent of its dialogue in a language other than English. Nigerian Pidgin English qualifies, provided the film includes accurate and legible English subtitles. Entries must also meet Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS)-approved technical specifications—35 mm, 70 mm, or digital cinema formats—and must have had a theatrical release for at least seven consecutive days between 1 December 2024 and 31 October 2025.

Full eligibility guidelines and submission details are available on the NOSC website. The NOSC remains the only body recognised by AMPAS to select Nigeria’s official entry for the category.

The winning submission will represent Nigeria at the Oscars on Sunday, 15 March 2026, in Los Angeles, joining the global competition for one of cinema’s most prestigious awards. The ceremony will be broadcast live to more than 200 territories worldwide.

For the 97th Academy Awards, the NOSC selected Mai Martaba, an epic Hausa-language film directed by Prince Daniel. Although it did not secure a final nomination, it showcased Nigerian cinematic talent on the world stage.
