The row over the invasion of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) may not be over, as the management has issued the agency a seven-day ultimatum to issue an unreserved public apology for what it described as a “Gestapo-style” operation last Sunday.

Managing Director Vitalis Ortese demanded a thorough investigation by security agencies, ₦3.5 billion in damages for victims and the Library, and warned that legal action would follow if the demands were not met.

Ortese alleged that the raid was intended to attack the dignity of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, calling it “unlawful” and “a direct assault on everything this institution stands for”. He urged that the findings of any investigation be made public.

According to him, the operation caused at least ₦1 billion in damages and inflicted bodily harm on those arrested. He demanded immediate compensation for those detained, whose vehicles were seized, and for their injuries — totalling at least ₦1 billion.

He further requested ₦2.5 billion as symbolic atonement for damage to the Library’s reputation, business, and financial standing, as well as to the reputation of its chief promoter.

The management warned that if the demands were not met in full by 20 August 2025, it would seek redress in court, without further engagement with the Police or EFCC, and that its legal claims could exceed the current demands.
