Police recover unexploded bomb in Borno farmland

Police operatives in Borno State have recovered an unexploded ordnance found on farmland in Dikwa Local Government Area.

The command’s spokesperson, ASP Nahum Daso, explained in a statement on Monday that a farmer, Babagana Kachalla, had reported sighting a strange object on his farm.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, swiftly directed the Commander of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit in Maiduguri, along with his team, to the site where the explosive was successfully retrieved.

The statement reads “in a proactive security operation, has successfully recovered an Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) discovered on a farmland in Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno State.

“The recovery followed a report from one Babagana Kachalla, who sighted a suspicious object on his farmland. Upon receipt of the information, the Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, promptly deployed the Commander of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Base 13, Maiduguri, alongside his team, to the location”

He further said that In line with standard EOD-CBRN protocols, the area was professionally cordoned off.

“The UXO, identified as a Cluster Bomb Unit (CBU) measuring approximately 2.2 meters in length and 30 centimeters in width, was found partially buried”.

” The EOD-CBRN Operatives conducted IN-SITU demolition before the extraction of the cluster munitions plates” he said

Daso further assured that the operation was carried out successfully without incident.

“Members of the community were sensitized on Explosive Ordnance Risk Awareness (EORA) to enhance their knowledge on safety precautions when such dangerous objects are discovered” he said

The PPRO  reiterates the command’s commitment to the safety and security of all residents of Borno State.

“Members of the public are strongly advised to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious items or activities to the nearest police station” he said.
