Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have rescued 20 Ghanaians — 10 women and 10 men — trafficked to Uyo Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, confirmed the rescue in a statement issued in Uyo on Wednesday.
She said police operatives, acting on credible intelligence, stormed a compound in Obio Etoi village, Uyo, at about 4:17 p.m. on Monday, 18 August 2025, following a formal request for assistance from the Ghana Police Service and INTERPOL.
“On 18 August 2025, operatives of the Command successfully rescued 20 Ghanaians trafficked to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. The victims, 10 males and 10 females, were rescued from a well-fenced compound in Obio Etoi village after a joint operation,” the statement read.
DSP John revealed that the victims appeared disoriented and unable to speak, fuelling suspicions that they may have been hypnotised.
She added that investigations were ongoing and assured that the Command would provide further updates as new information emerged.
