The Federal Government has dismissed claims that patients in the Northwest have been excluded from its kidney dialysis subsidy scheme.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare explained that the subsidy programme is already being piloted in 11 federal tertiary health institutions across the country.

Signed by the Deputy Director and Head of Information & Public Relations, Alaba Balogun, the statement noted that the cost of a dialysis session had been reduced from ₦50,000 to ₦12,000.

“This initiative, under the Renewed Hope Agenda, is part of government’s deliberate effort to provide relief for kidney patients while expanding access to universal health coverage,” Balogun said.

The subsidy is currently in effect at:

  • Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital

  • University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital

  • Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital

  • University of Jos Teaching Hospital

  • National Hospital, Abuja

  • Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Metta

  • University College Hospital, Ibadan

  • University of Benin Teaching Hospital

  • Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa

  • Federal Teaching Hospital, Owerri

  • Federal Medical Centre, Abakaliki

The Ministry stressed that the Northwest is not excluded and pledged to expand the scheme to more federal hospitals nationwide.
