A resident of Agbaja village in Oworo, Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State, Mallam Jato Jaye, has allegedly murdered his 11-year-old son, Buhari Jato.
The incident came to light after the child’s mother raised the alarm over his disappearance. Community members quickly mobilized and searched along common grazing paths in an effort to find him.
Tragically, the boy’s decomposing body was later discovered in the bush, with the suspect allegedly attempting to bury him to conceal the crime.
The incident was promptly reported to the ‘D’ Division of the police in Lokoja, who moved to the scene and evacuated the body of the victim.
The decomposing body was later released to the family for burial after necessary documentation of the incident.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, William Aya, confirmed the incident. When asked if it did happen as stated, the police spokesman said “yes”.
