A rainstorm on Wednesday wreaked havoc in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, damaging several houses.

The storm also affected the Jos South Local Government Council secretariat, leaving parts of the facility destroyed.

The heavy rainstorm caused widespread destruction in the Bukur community of Jos South LGA.

The Chairman of thr cou, Silas Patrick Dung, confirmed the development to newsmen in Jos on Wednesday, explaining that the storm was extremely strong, uprooting the four columns that held up the Secretariat’s gatehouse and destroying some houses in the community.

He said, “The fact that the storm destroyed the Council Secretariat gate, which was built with 25mm rods, indicates that it was a very strong rainstorm.”

The chairman, who visited the affected areas with officials from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), reported that some houses were destroyed, while several others had their roofs blown off and fences damaged.

Dung attributed the damage to the strong wind, describing it as a natural disaster.

He said the authorities are working to assess the full extent of the damage and provide support to affected residents, assuring that the council would take necessary steps to prevent further occurrence.
