The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has said the Federal Government will ensure that the perpetrators of the attack on worshippers in Malumfashi LGA of Katsina state are brought to justice.

On Tuesday morning, gunmen attacked worshippers observing Fajr prayer in a mosque in the community, killing several people.

On Wednesday, Secretary to the Katsina State Government, Abdullahi Faskari, confirmed that 32 people were killed during the attack.

In a statement on Friday, the minister described the killings as “callous and barbaric”, adding that such acts of terror will not be allowed to take root in the country.

“This wanton act of violence is not only an assault on the people of Malumfashi but also on our shared humanity and values as a nation,” Idris said.

He added that security forces are already on the trail of the attackers, assuring that no stone will be left unturned until they are apprehended and held accountable.

“Justice will be swift and decisive,” he said, noting that the federal government has been recording successes in counter-terrorism operations.

He recalled that the National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC) recently announced the arrest of top leaders of two terrorist groups, including Mahmud al-Nigeri of the Mahmuda group and his deputy, Abu Abba, alongside Mahmud Muhammad Usman (Abu Baraa) of the Ansaru group.

“These arrests, directed by President Tinubu, are proof that those who shed innocent blood will find no hiding place in Nigeria,” Idris added.
