Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has dismissed critics who brand him a fundamentalist, insisting such views come from people who neither know him nor have worked with him.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, El-Rufai said he remains indifferent to such perceptions.
“I don’t care. The people that think I am a fundamentalist don’t know me, they have never met me. The reason why my enemies are vehement is because I don’t care what they think. I am very comfortable with who I am,” he stated.
When asked about accusations of hostility towards Southern Kaduna, the former governor rejected the claim outright.
“They can think what they like. Governance is not a joke. Nobody can blackmail me that because he is a Christian, the law doesn’t apply to him,” he said.
El-Rufai argued that some in Southern Kaduna felt entitled to act with impunity, which he dealt with firmly. He added that several of his closest allies in government were from the region, disproving claims of bias.
He further noted that during his administration, he curtailed irregular practices and reduced wasteful government expenditure, stressing that his leadership style was driven by discipline rather than prejudice.
