Six people died and nine others sustained serious injuries in a road accident at Ibeju Bus Stop along the Lekki–Epe Expressway in Lagos State on Monday.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed that a truck rammed into a commercial bus, killing two men, three women and a child. Four passengers escaped without injuries.

Preliminary findings showed that a blue Volvo FL6 truck loaded with wooden planks collided with a white commercial bus with registration number AKD 336 YD.

LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, said officials, assisted by other emergency responders, extricated the injured survivors and rushed them to the Federal Medical Centre, Epe, and Hammond Hospital.

He added that the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the FMC morgue, pending identification by relatives. The four unhurt survivors received immediate attention from LASTMA’s Rescue Unit, which worked alongside the Federal Road Safety Corps, the police and the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps.

The joint emergency operation cleared the scene swiftly and restored traffic flow.

LASTMA’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the bereaved families and condemned reckless driving on Lagos highways. He reminded motorists that “speed thrills, but ultimately kills,” urging drivers to obey traffic rules and remain vigilant, particularly during the high-risk Ember Months.
