Nigeria records another national grid collapse

Electricity supply across Nigeria collapsed on Wednesday after the national grid failed, plunging many parts of the country into darkness.

The outage occurred between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m., with power generation dropping sharply.

Several distribution companies reported the disruption. The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) said on X:

“The power outage currently being experienced is due to a loss of supply from the national grid at 11:23 a.m. today, affecting electricity supply across our franchise areas.”

Similarly, the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) announced that the collapse left its four franchise states — Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River — without supply.

Both firms appealed to customers for patience, assuring that engineers are working to restore power as soon as the grid stabilises.

Authorities confirmed that efforts to restore the grid are already underway.
