The United Bank for Africa (UBA) on Tuesday confirmed that a fire outbreak occurred on Broad Street, Lagos Island, affecting a building that houses one of its branches.

This was contained in a statement released by the bank on its official X account on Tuesday.

“We are aware of the fire incident at a building on Broad Street, Lagos Island, which incidentally houses one of our many branches”, the statement partly read.

The bank, however, dismissed claims circulating on social media that its corporate head office was involved.

“As against reports online and social media, the affected building is not the UBA House, Marina, the Bank’s head office,” the statement clarified.

UBA further assured its customers and the public that no lives were lost and that safety precautions had been taken.

“We have ensured the safety and well-being of our staff and customers in the branch,” the bank stated

The fire incident drew attention because of its location in Lagos Island’s busy business district, where several banks, offices, and commercial buildings operate. While details of the fire outbreak remain sketchy, emergency responders were reported to have moved swiftly to contain the situation.

UBA urged customers and stakeholders seeking more information to reach out via official channels. “For further enquiry, kindly contact [email protected] or call 07002255822,” the bank added.

The development comes at a time when businesses in Lagos have been raising concerns over fire safety in commercial buildings, following recent incidents in the state’s central business areas.
