The commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Cross River state, Morrison Ogbonna, was discovered dead in a Calabar hotel.

According to reports, his colleagues went to pick him up for an assignment on Thursday morning but found his lifeless body inside the hotel room.

“They knocked repeatedly on his door without any response, then alerted the hotel management, who opened the room and found him dead,” NAN quoted a source as saying.

Ogbonna had only been deployed to Cross River in August, replacing Rachel Umebuali as state commander.

His sudden passing has left the agency in shock.

Confirming the incident, Irene Ugbo-Obase, spokesperson of the Cross River police command, said investigations are underway to ascertain the circumstances of his death.

As of press time, the NDLEA had yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
