Osun PDP petitions CJ over ‘suspicious’ letter on LG fund crisis

The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has written a petition to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, calling for an investigation into a questionable letter allegedly tied to the court’s handling of the local government funds crisis in the state.

The PDP said a letter dated September 2, 2025, emerged, directing that a vacation judge should continue hearing a case substantively even after the vacation period had ended.

The party alleged that the letter was signed by an unidentified person on behalf of the Chief Judge instead of the judge themselves, raising suspicions of judicial misconduct.

It condemned the situation as “a bizarre and unprecedented abuse of judicial process,” stressing the importance of transparency and accountability.

Case Against CBN, AGF

On September 8, the Federal High Court heard a suit instituted by the Osun State Government against the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF).

Justice Emeka Nwite presided over the proceedings, with parties entering their appearances.

The case centers on the management of local government allocations. The Osun State Government accused the CBN and AGF of attempting to divert funds meant for local governments into private accounts, describing the move as a clear violation of financial regulations and the Nigerian Constitution.

The government alleged that the CBN and AGF intended to pay local government allocations into accounts operated by individuals impersonating government officials, bypassing legitimate accounting officers.

It further argued that such a move would undermine ongoing cases before the Supreme Court on the administration of local government funds in Osun State.

The dispute is rooted in the conflict between APC and PDP officials following conflicting court rulings on the legality of the October 2022 local government elections.
