The Sokoto State Government has suspended six secondary school principals over allegations of misconduct, including the unauthorized collection of fees for Junior Secondary School exam results.
The principals affected are from Nana Girls Secondary School, Government Day Secondary School (GDSS) Gagi, GDSS Mana, Giginya Memorial College, Mana Basic Secondary School, and GDSS Silame.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Iya, some of the suspensions were due to illegal fee collection, while others were related to alleged acts of insubordination.
Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Ahmad Ladan Ala, approved the suspensions and set up a five-member investigative panel to probe the allegations.
The panel is chaired by Prof. Mustapha Namakka Tukur, and representatives from the State Arabic and Islamic Education Board, AIEB, the Ministry’s Quality Assurance Department, the Teachers’ Service Board, TSB, and the Planning Department.
The suspended principals were directed to hand over to their vice principals (administration) immediately.
According to Iya, the action demonstrates the ministry’s commitment to discipline, transparency, and accountability in the management of public schools.
