A night inferno on Thursday gutted no fewer than ten shops opposite the main entrance of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State.
The fire, which broke out around 10 p.m., consumed goods and property valued in millions of naira before assistance could reach the scene.
One of the traders, identified simply as Prince, expressed grief over his losses, saying, “I repair laptops, and over 400 laptops in my shop have been burnt to ashes. I don’t know what to do; the laptops and my tools are all gone.”
Another victim recounted, “Before we got here yesterday, the shops had already been razed. We lost four deep freezers and drinks and others. We’ve others who sell phones too here.”
Eyewitnesses described how the flames spread quickly through the row of shops, leaving the owners stranded. A source, who requested anonymity, linked the incident to an electrical spark.
