The Governor of Imo State, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, has explained how his successor and political godfather, immediate past Governor of the state, Udom Emmanuel led him into politics.
Eno revealed this on Friday during an interview on Arise Television.
According to the Governor, his successor saw what he did not see in himself.
He said, ”my predecessor, my political godfather, he called me and said to me, ‘I believe you will be a good governor. I want you to contest.’ And I give that to him any day — he saw what I did not see in myself.
Eno explained that his late wife, Kemi was initially opposed to the idea when Udom came to tell him at their home. The late Kemi feared that her husband like other political players will be subject to ridicule if he takes up the offer.
”And I remember the night, again, he invited me to have this discussion with me. I was with my wife, and then my wife just went straight to the floor, knelt down and said, ‘Sir, please leave my house, my neighborhood.’ And she turned to me and said in Yoruba, who has ever been governor in your family before?
She continued, ‘They are cursing governors every day. They’ll be abusing my husband like this. Please leave him alone.’
”The man laughed and laughed and laughed. He said, ‘But he has the qualities. He will be a governor. He will be a good governor.’
”So I said, ‘Let’s go and pray.’ But he said, ‘God has already told me you will be the next governor.’ And quite frankly, that’s how I came into this business. He gave me the platform, and I will forever thank him for it.”
He also stated that the case of the girl dragged from the Ibom Airline is still under investigation.
